In 2023, the Garden’s significance in Japan is evident through its International Advisory Board, visits from high-ranking Japanese officials, and a recent 60th-anniversary gala in Tokyo.

The winter 2021 issue of the Bilingual Newsletter reflects back on the accomplishments of Portland Japanese Garden during one of the most challenging years in our organization’s history and looks ahead to exciting new developments. We are pleased to announce new members on our International Advisory Board (IAB), new collaboration with world-renowned architect and IAB member Kengo Kuma, the American Public Gardens Association (APGA) Conference that will be hosted by the Garden this coming summer, and the Peace Symposium hosted by the Garden at the end of 2022 in London.

The summer 2021 issue of the Bilingual Newsletter celebrates our verdant vistas and the ability to reconnect with one another. The days are warmer, the sun shines longer and we find ourselves in a lush paradise during this time of the year at Portland Japanese Garden. We are excited to announce a new member on our International Advisory Board, successfully hosting our first in-person event in over a year, and our local NBC affiliate, KGW, broadcasting live from the Garden throughout the Olympics. While we look ahead, we’re also excited to be bringing back modified in-person experiences, such as our maple pruning workshop, our annual artisan marketplace, Behind the Shoji, and cultural festivals, O-Bon, and O-Tsukimi.
